Woven Garnet is the work of two South African creative practitioners. A short note on who we are, why we started, and how the conversations come together.
Woven Garnet is a project where we want to connect with emerging South African creatives and learn more about their practice. We are interested in documenting what it is like to be an artist in South Africa, what is important to them, and what they feel needs to be heard by both local and international audiences.
We feel strongly about South African creatives being represented in the art and design world. As two South African practitioners ourselves, we understand the challenges of starting a career in these fields and how difficult it can be to reach wider local and international audiences. We want to try and change this.
As a country filled with such a creatively rich range of people, we believe there are voices that deserve to be heard. Through Woven Garnet, we are building a platform that we hope can make this possible.

Two South African creative practitioners, currently based between London and South Africa.
Through connecting with multiple artists, we hope to curate group exhibitions, with the first planned for around September. Being interviewed does not necessarily mean participation in the exhibition, as there will be a separate open call closer to the time.
As we are based between London and South Africa, we also hope to bring some of these creatives' work to London through both solo and group exhibitions, helping to introduce their work to new audiences abroad.
Our open call is currently closed — the first round of Volume One interviews is complete. Submissions will reopen later this year.
